Color:
One of our favorite plants, Thismia neptunis, is a rare and enigmatic flowering species that has captivated botanists with its unusual biology and mysterious lifecycle. Spending most of its life underground, it makes only rare and fleeting appearances to bloom. First “discovered” in 1866, it was not seen again until recently.

Unlike most plants, Thismia neptunis does not photosynthesize. It is a mycoheterotroph, deriving nutrients from fungi in the soil that are connected to nearby photosynthesizing plants.

UV colourway
Many pollinators can see in the ultraviolet (UV) spectrum, and some plants have evolved UV coloration to attract them. This adaptation creates a hidden "language" of signals between different life forms, enhancing communication and mutual benefit in nature.

Glow in Dark Thread
The pale green thread, featured on some of the hats, is the glow in the dark. To see it, charge the hat in the sun (or with the iPhone torch for 30 seconds) and then view in the dark.

About Bioverse Hats

Each hat is a unique, wearable artwork, crafted individually on a home embroidery machine in NYC by Tin Nguyen. The process allows for the use of many colors, making every hat unique.

The embroidery explores the complex lives of plants and other life forms, drawing inspiration from themes of plant intelligence, symbiosis, hybridity, and evolution.
